Sublimation Printer
What is it?
We are using the Epson ET-2800 as a dedicated inkjet printer for sublimation inks and sublimation paper to produce sublimation prints.
“Sublimation” is the term for transitioning matter directly from solid to gas to solid and skipping the liquid phase. Sublimation printing is a digital image transfer method that uses heat (177 – 220 °C) and pressure to convert specialized solid ink dyes directly into a gas, which penetrates polyester fabrics or polymer-coated materials and resolidifies.
This produces a more professional looking, longer lasting image. The gas bonds at a molecular level, creating vibrant, permanent, full-colour designs that won't crack, peel, or fade.
You are welcome to bring your own items if they are sublimation compatible. The Library accepts no liability for your materials. Remember to always mirror your sublimation print because the transfer process requires the print to be placed face down against the item.
