Borrowing Materials

All Library visitors can use the books, magazines, etc. while in the Library. With a library card, you can check them out and take them home with you. Don’t forget about our eBooks and our online collection, accessible through your computer. If you can’t find what you’re looking for, please make a request. Getting a card

If you go to school, live, work or own property in Bradford West Gwillimbury you are eligible for a free library card, which must be presented to check out materials. To obtain a card visit Borrower Services at the entrance of the Library. We require identification with a local BWG address. Children under the age of thirteen must be accompanied by a parent or guardian to obtain a BWG Public Library card.  Some acceptable forms of ID include:

  • driver's license
  • utility bill
  • employment – pay stub
  • school – report card
  • title / deed – land ownership

 

Loan periods 

For DVDs, Quick Reads, Playaway Views, Launchpads, video games and specially marked material the loan period is 7 days. The loan period for Quick Flicks is 3 days. For most other items, the loan period is 3 weeks. Reference and Local History items are for use in the library only. Photocopiers are available, should you wish to copy portions to take home with you.

 

Lost card 

If you have lost your card, we require identification in order to issue a replacement. Contact the Library immediately to report a lost or stolen library card. You are responsible for anything borrowed on your card until it has been reported lost or stolen.
 

Password

When you receive your library card, you will be given a secure password. This password allows you to access our computers, online collections and your personal account via the library catalogue. When you log into your account, you will be able to see the items you have out on loan, check for fines, renew items and place reservations.  Once this secure password has been assigned, you can change it to something of your own choosing in the My Account section of the catalogue.

 

Reciprocal borrowing agreements


The Bradford West Gwillimbury Public Library maintains reciprocal borrowing agreements with libraries in the neighbouring communities of East Gwillimbury, King Township, Newmarket, New Tecumseth and Innisfil. Residents from there are eligible to receive a Bradford West Gwillimbury Public Library card at no charge. If you live outside of these communities, membership is available for an annual fee of $70 per person. For complete details, please visit the Service Desk.

 

Renewals 

You may renew a book or CD up to 5 times, provided there are no other requests for the item. Each renewal lasts 3 weeks. For DVDs and Video games, there is two renewals  of 7 days allowed. Quick Reads and Quick Flicks and WiFi Hotspots cannot be renewed.

 

Place a hold

You may place reservations on most circulating materials. You will be contacted by e-mail or telephone when your reservations are ready for pick up. You then have five days to pick up your reservations from the self-serve holds shelf.

 

Reservations can only be checked out with the card used to place the reservation, or with a card linked to that account.

Managing your account

Cancelling holds

  1. Log into My Account.
  2. From the menu, click on Reservations. A list of your reservations appears.
  3. Click in the checkbox beside each item that you wish to cancel.
  4. Click on Delete Selected Reservations
  5. OR change the expiry date on the reservation.
  6. Click on Confirm modification(s).

 

Changing your Password

  1. Log into My Account.
  2. Click on Change my password.
  3. Enter the old password.
  4. Enter the new password.
  5. Confirm the new password.
  6. Click Change.

 

Checking current loans and fines

  1. Click on My Account.
  2. Click on Loans/Renewals.
  3. List of items currently out on loan will appear showing any fines in the overdue fine column.
  4. For fines on items that have already been returned, click on fines to date in the menu.

 

Renewals

  1. Log into My Account.
  2. From the menu, choose Loans/renewals.
  3. At the top of the list, click on Renew items.
  4. Click in the checkbox beside each item you wish to renew, then click Renew selected items, or...
  5. Click on Renew all items if you wish to renew all the items.

 

*The new due date will be displayed under the due date column and should be recorded

**Your renewal will not be accepted if... • The item is overdue • There is a hold on the item • The item has reached a maximum number of renewals • Your connection has timed out
